Our eyeliners and lip liners are designed to be sharpened rather than twisted up. If yours does not twist, nothing is wrong with it.
Start every application with a well sharpened pencil. It is what gives you a precise line.
1440 Longwear Eyeliner
- Sharpen first, for the most precise application. We recommend our Cosmetic Pencil Sharpener for a smooth, high-performance application.
- Upper lash line. Start from the inner corner and move outward with short, gentle strokes, keeping the line close to your lashes.
- Smudge or define. For a softer look, gently smudge with a brush or cotton swab. For a sharp, precise line, leave as is.
TruGlide Technology gives it a butter-like application, and it sharpens to a fine tip so you can easily draw thin and precise strokes.
For hooded eyes, focus on the upper lash line, draw the liner right into the roots of your lashes, and gently blend for a smoky look.
360 Contour Lipliner
- Sharpen first, for the most precise application. We recommend our Cosmetic Pencil Sharpener for a smooth, high-performance application.
- Choose your shade. For a natural look, pick a pencil that matches your lip color or is slightly deeper, to enhance and define your lips.
- Line your lips. Follow the natural outline of your mouth with your pencil. Let the line set for about a minute.
-
Perfect your shape.
- Start at the center of the top lip. Draw a soft "X" to mark your Cupid's bow, which keeps it symmetrical.
- Mark the center of the bottom lip at its fullest point and draw a short line outward toward the corners.
- Connect the top and bottom outlines at the corners using short, gentle strokes.
Pro tip: lean back slightly in the mirror to see your full lip shape.
If you are wearing it with the All-Day Lip Stain, apply the liner after the stain. Blend the edges with a lip definer brush, and add a lighter stain or gloss to the center of your lips for dimension.

If you do not have one yet, our Cosmetic Pencil Sharpener is sized for these pencils and has a German steel blade, so it gives a cleaner point than a standard stationery sharpener.
Any cosmetic pencil sharpener works, though. You do not need ours.
Getting a clean point
The formula is deliberately soft, which is what gives you that smooth glide. Soft formulas crumble if you sharpen them straight out of a warm bag or pocket.
- Put the pencil in the fridge or freezer for 10 to 15 minutes first. This firms the formula up.
- Turn the pencil, not the sharpener.
- Go slowly, and do not press hard.
- If the blade drags, it is dull. A clean, sharp blade makes more difference than anything else here.
Empty your sharpener as soon as it becomes full. Product build-up inside the barrel is the usual reason a sharpener stops cutting. Wipe the blade with a tissue every few uses.
